It’s very safe as long as you use common sense and trust your instincts. Look into an open-ended Eurail pass. Totally awesome way to travel.

This is quite a long trip and the easiest way to do it is by the night train. The train departs Paris Bercy station at 18.54 arriving in Florence at 7.15am. I really suggest you pay extra and get a bed in a couchette. This is much safer, and certainly more comfortable, than staying in a seat all night.

You can book tickets through the French national rail website http://www.voyages-sncf.com Tickets can be purchased up to 90 days before departure.

Train travel France and Italy is a very safe way to travel. It’s also more relaxing than flying as you can get up and move around if you wish, and there’s a view!

If you don’t want to book through the SNCF website, just go to a travel agency to book although this might incur an extra fee.
